We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting Team. This position will coordinate the Month End Close process, recognize revenue on projects according to GAAP (percentage completion method), analyze financial results and provide our Regions and Divisions with Project Accounting support as needed. Candidates with accounting experience in a construction setting are highly preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate Month End Close
  • Ensure batches are posted prior to the cutoff.
  • Post various journal entries including but not limited to job cost accruals, District Allocations, and Over/Under billing adjustments.
  • Review sub-ledgers for exceptions and notify the respective Project Accountant for corrections.
  • Review projects’ estimated costs and estimated profits for reasonableness and accuracy.
  • Review projects’ billings and under/overbilling positions for reasonableness and accuracy.
  • Assist Controller in reconciling all month end reports to the GL (WIP Revenue/COS, G&A, District OH, Repairs, Plant Reports, etc.).
  • Prepare monthly Financial Report package. Distribute to Corp.
  • Ensure job phase coding are set up according to system standards, review exceptions with the respective Project Accountant.
  • Coordinate the closing of a project in Viewpoint with the Lead Project Accountant.
  • Coordinate Quarterly Underbilling/Overbilling and Profit Gain/Loss analysis.
  • Project account for 1-2 jobs as assigned.
  • Corporate accounts payable reconciliations as needed.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job. * Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, specifically needing Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience with Viewpoint Software or an equivalent ERP system is preferred.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines.
  • Must be self-motivated, intellectually curious and enjoy working with a diverse group of people.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Mathematics or Construction Management preferred.

Experience

  • 2 or more years’ experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, preferably in a Construction or Manufacturing environment.

  • Most time spent in an indoor office environment.
  • Sitting at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasional lifting of files and boxes up to 20 lbs.
  • Pushing/pulling of file cabinets.
  • Extended visual use of a computer screen.
  • Frequent typing.
  • Occasional travel
