Application Information Pay is $17.48 per hour City of Florence is seeking several hard-working, reliable employees for seasonal maintenance positions for City of Florence Parks, Streets, and various other Public Works Department positions. The duration of positions varies from 3 to 6 months, with the potential for longer. This is a great opportunity if you are looking for work in the area and have some skills or interest in trade/labor positions and helping out in your community

PLEASE NOTE: This position is through Cardinal Services and is not a direct City of Florence position. Applicants will be screened by the City and then referred to Cardinal to complete an employment application through Cardinal. Job Description Jobs vary by assignment.

Typical work includes: Perform basic grounds-keeping duties; minor plumbing; painting, carpentry, and masonry tasks in the installation and maintenance and repair of parks buildings, structures, playground and other equipment. Performs general manual labor digging ditches, weeding, mowing, raking and edging of turf areas, cutting brush, pruning trees and shrubs, application of fertilizers and pesticides, removing obstacles from roadway and adjacent areas. Performs simple manual work connected with patching and repairing of streets, street construction and maintenance.

Operate light equipment such as lawnmowers, pick-up trucks and other powered tools. Performs custodial services at city buildings; cleaning and restocking of park restrooms; empty trash receptacles and pick-up litter. Assists in the preparation and installation of traffic signs, preparation and application of signs and traffic marking material; painting of street markings and fire hydrants.

Ensures work is performed with all safety precautions and to standards. Follows all safety rules and procedures established for work areas. Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. Formal or informal education or training which insures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. Six months of experience in the operation of light equipment or in semi-skilled tasks.

Experience working in a parks environment or street maintenance is desirable. An Oregon driver's license is required at the time of appointment. High school diploma or equivalent.

Possession of a valid class A (CDL) driver's license is desirable. A Pre-Employment Background Check and Drug Screen will be performed. A DMV check will be performed.

A good attendance record is vital to the success of this position. Work well with a team. Additional Information Supervision Received & Exercised This position exercises no supervision, but may be asked to train new employees or employees needing knowledge, skills, and abilities from this position.

This position receives general supervision from the Public Works Director and direct supervision from the Facilities Supervisor. Work is reviewed through results achieved, meetings, spot checks of work in progress, and an evaluation of results achieved. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The employee will be required to operate a city vehicle and travel from building to building. The majority of duties will be conducted inside. One day a week for mowing, cleaning gutters, various other outdoor projects.

This means exposure to various external weather conditions (rain, wind, weather). Constant work on surfaces, including surfaces that may be wet, uneven, or loosely packed. Exposure to chemicals, including bleach and disinfection/sanitization products, cleaning supplies, insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers, etc.

This position does work in the municipal jail, which can have uncomfortable situations and smells. May need to occasional work from heights, including in a 60' lift, at rooftops and ceiling height. May need to use vibration tools, tools that make noise.

May be exposed to mosquitoes, human waste/biohazards, and drug paraphernalia. Physical Demands The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position has several physical factors, including mobility, strength, lifting, and pushing/pulling.

The position also requires agility, dexterity, and coordination. An employee in this position will be asked to stand, walk, or sit frequently. An employee may be asked to frequently lift up to 75lbs up to shoulder height.

They will occasionally be asked to lift up to 100lbs up to waist height. Lifting is most frequently under 25lbs. An employee is constantly asked to carry up to 20lbs and frequently carry up to 75lbs.

This includes being asked to carry 30-50lbs up to 300 feet. An employee is constantly asked to push/pull up to 10lbs, occasionally push/pulling up to 35lbs, and infrequently push/pulling up to 100lbs. An employee in this position needs to have the agility to climb, bend/stoop, kneel, crawl, squat, forward reach, overhead reach, and may be in awkward postures for occasional to frequent amounts of time.

An employee in this position needs to have the dexterity to constantly maintain both a firm and light grasp, pinch, use fingers dexterously, perform repetitive wrist/forearm use, and use both dominant and non-dominant hands. An employee needs to have constant hand eye and eye hand foot coordination. Position requires occasional driving.

Vision is required to perform work accurately and safety. Hearing and telephone communication is frequent. Constant verbal and face-to-face contact with others and the public.

Also, must be able to write. Employee will work in proximity to jailed inmates. Tools and Equipment Used The tools and equipment listed below represent a sample of what the incumbent may be expected to use or learn in this position in order to perform the essential functions.

For administrative work, the position will utilize computer, including word processing, database, related specialty software, email, Internet, and spreadsheet programs; calculator, telephone, copy machine, fax machine and postage machine. For maintenance and custodial work, the most commonly used equipment are gas powered outdoor tools (leaf blower, lawn mower, etc.), industrial cleaning tools, power tools and hand tools. There is a small percentage of work performed using heavy equipment

The initial interview is a panel interview that may be conducted as one-way video interview through our partner, Spark Hire, a video interview over zoom, or in-person. If you are not selected after this stage, we will let you know you were not selected. If this is you, keep an eye on our open roles for the next opportunity that might be a match.

The top scoring applicants from this initial interview round will be asked to conduct an in-person panel interview key staff you may be working with. However, this depends upon the position/recruitment. In certain circumstances, the City may forgo the in-person panel interview and move on to the Department Head in-person interview.

All applicants will go through the same process. The Department Head interview is typically the final stages of the process and your chance to leave an impression through your enthusiasm, preparation, abilities, and resume. After this interview, the Department Head and the City Manager will meet to discuss the candidates and the City Manager will make the final decision based on the Department Head's recommendation.

Human Resources will reach out to all applicants and confirm their status in the application process. The top candidate will receive a conditional offer that specifies what background procedures will be conducted (depends upon position). Applicants not selected may be placed on an eligibility list for the Department to use in the 6 months following the close of the recruitment.

This list will allow the Department to pick up with the candidates where they left off in the recruitment should another vacancy for the same position become available.
