Tax Assessor - Collector Clerk - Tax Assessor Collector - J10018 - 12000 ID- 9181

About the position

The position involves performing a variety of clerical procedures where guidelines exist, but judgment is often required in non-routine situations and specialized subject matter knowledge is necessary. The employee must be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies as directed by the Department Head.

Responsibilities

  • Composes and types standardized and/or non-standardized correspondence and other documents and materials using a typewriter and/or word processing software.
  • Uses spreadsheet and/or database software to input and retrieve information.
  • Establishes and maintains moderately complex records and filing systems, preparing statistical, financial activity, and related reports.
  • Conducts research to respond to routine and non-routine questions about particular areas of responsibility.
  • Prepares and issues documents according to established guidelines.
  • Calculates amounts of payments due according to established guidelines, using data from several sources.
  • Receives and posts payments and issues receipts.
  • Provides an accounting of cash balances and resolves discrepancies independently.
  • Prepares cash and checks for deposit.
  • Stocks window shelves with license plates, motor vehicle forms, etc., and checks in mail.
  • Processes transfers of funds among accounts and/or projects.
  • Prepares checks returned for insufficient funds for collection and adjusts accounting records.
  • Reviews motor vehicle title errors pertaining to TXDMV NMVTIS report.
  • Communicates motor vehicle title errors with owners and state agencies by phone, email, or letter.
  • Uses TXDMV webDealer system to electronically process title and registration for vehicle sales.
  • Uses software to process and maintain voter registration applications.
  • May be expected to travel to remote offices located throughout Nueces County.
  • Interacts with the general public and co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
