About the position

The Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation plays a crucial role in managing and overseeing the city's parks, recreational facilities, and cultural affairs. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the formulation of policies related to planning, operation, and administration of city recreational, cultural, and natural resource programming.
  • Prepare the annual budget and periodic reports of departmental operations; conduct regular inspections of facilities.
  • Act as a liaison between the Director and the public, relaying instructions and information as needed.
  • Plan, supervise, direct, coordinate, and administer activities and personnel of assigned divisions.
  • Prepare and administer the department's annual capital improvements projects and related budgets.
  • Manage contracts for major construction projects, including preparation of requests for proposals and bid openings.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and Agency Accreditation.
  • Provide public information on programs and services through press releases and presentations.
  • Evaluate subordinate supervisors and review evaluations for assigned staff personnel.
  • Represent the department at meetings and serve as a liaison with various stakeholders.
  • Direct and oversee leases and contracts; prepare monthly reports and revenue projections.
  • Conduct public surveys to assess community needs and program adequacy.
  • Review work programs through field observations and analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of divisional budgets and fee recommendations.
  • Direct contract negotiations with outside planning consultants for park planning and architecture.
  • Manage comprehensive urban forestry programs with assistance from staff and consultants.
  • Conduct safety investigations within the City and ensure compliance with regulations.
