Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics


BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under clinical supervision, conducts outpatient clinical assessments to evaluate the psychological, social, occupational, educational and domestic needs of assigned clients and provides treatment intervention. 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: 

Behavioral Health Therapist III is the licensed level of the Behavioral Health Therapist series assigned highly complex cases and demonstrates higher skill level to conduct assessments and provide crisis and treatment interventions. Behavioral Health Therapist II is an intern under clinical supervision responsible to conduct clinical assessments, determine diagnosis, develop treatment plans and provide treatment interventions. Behavioral Health Therapist I is the entry level intern of the Behavioral Health Therapist series working under clinical supervision to train and develop the diagnostic and treatment skills required for licensure.

Education and Experience/ Licenses and Other Requirements


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 Must have a qualifying Master’s Degree to meet the requirement for licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor) LPCC with the Board of Behavioral Sciences and two years experience in providing counseling services in a mental health setting. 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

Must be licensed by the State of California and maintain active license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). The licensing requirement is an essential requirement of the position. Valid California Driver’s License.

A valid driver’s license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
 
 This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
