About the position

The Instructional Assistant III-RSP/SDC plays a crucial role in supporting students with special learning needs under the direction of a designated supervisor. This position involves a variety of follow-up instructional activities aimed at assisting children who exhibit learning disabilities in the mild to moderate range. The assistant will work closely with instructional personnel to present learning materials and conduct instructional exercises, ensuring that students receive the necessary support to succeed in their educational endeavors. The role requires a compassionate and patient approach to help students navigate their learning challenges effectively. In addition to direct instructional support, the assistant will be responsible for tutoring individual students and small groups, monitoring their progress, and assisting in the management of student behavior through positive reinforcement strategies.

The position may also involve clerical tasks, such as maintaining records and preparing instructional materials, as well as providing first aid and administering medication as needed. The assistant will contribute to creating a safe and positive learning environment, which may include participating in yard duty and riding the school bus with students. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of child development and the behavioral characteristics of students with special learning needs. They will be expected to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff, and to work cooperatively with others to foster a supportive educational atmosphere. Requirements

  • One year of paid or volunteer experience working with children of various age levels requiring a specialized learning environment.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Training or coursework in child growth and development, special education, instructional technology, or a closely related field desirable.
