About the position

The Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) Trainee position is a critical role within the St. Petersburg Police Department, responsible for managing incoming emergency and non-emergency calls through a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system. The PST Trainee will work rotating shifts that cover 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays, reflecting the nature of emergency services. A commitment of three years is required for this position, emphasizing the importance of stability and reliability in this critical role. The starting pay for the position is $25.34 per hour, with the potential to earn up to $33.08 per hour based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, a hiring bonus of $1,500 is offered, with $750 paid upon hire and the remaining $750 upon successful completion of call taker training, which typically occurs six months after hiring. Candidates with recent Emergency Communications experience or a current Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification may be eligible for a higher starting pay.

Responsibilities
