About the position

The Collections Assistant position at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science focuses on supporting the Earth Sciences' Geology collections, particularly in the context of creating a new mineral and gem exhibit hall. Responsibilities

  • Assist with professional collections management for Earth Sciences Geology collections as needed for the Gems and Minerals Exhibit Project.
  • Document, rehouse, prepare, clean, move, and store collections.
  • Monitor and supervise interns and volunteers as needed.
  • Handle specimens safely and adhere to collections management best practices during moving, rehousing, labeling, inventorying, and installing specimens.
  • Update and maintain collections data in the museum's collections management system, EMu.
  • Implement and ensure adherence to all safety protocols in collections.
  • Support internal and external outreach and service programs as needed.

Requirements

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in geology, mineralogy, earth sciences, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of mineral specimen needs, risks, cleaning procedures, and locality types.
  • Experience handling, moving, preparing, and rehousing mineral collections.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
