Senior Embedded Software Engineer ID- 10020

About the position

The Senior Software Engineer plays a crucial role in the Electro Optical Infrared System (EOIS) Software Development Team at DRS. This position is responsible for leading technical activities throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring timely completion of projects, and influencing design architecture for robust operation. The engineer will develop embedded software, PC tools, and implement networking protocols while ensuring hardware compatibility and component selection. This role requires interaction with users to define system requirements and modifications, as well as the ability to lead technical projects independently.

Responsibilities

  • Support and participate in technical activities.
  • Design, develop, analyze, document, and support testing of products, systems, or subsystems.
  • Use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments.
  • Work independently and under supervision of others.
  • Provide regular reporting of progress and status.
  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to support them, including cost as a key design variable.
  • Support design to cost and design for manufacture requirements.
  • Develop prototypes to retire key development risks as directed.
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Computer Engineering, Computer Science) or related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD clearance, which requires US citizenship.
  • 3+ years of real-time embedded software experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with firmware and/or microcontrollers.
  • Demonstrated experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS), Linux, and bare-metal implementation of embedded systems.
  • Experience with embedded device drivers (TCP/IP, UART, I2C, PCIe, MIPI), preferably on Linux.
  • Solid understanding of multi-threading/multi-processing concepts, implementations, and debugging techniques.
  • 3+ years of strong development experience utilizing C or C++.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and MS Excel.
  • Motivated, self-starter.
