POSITION SUMMARY:

The Los Angeles Shop Coordinator (SC) will report to the Co-Owners of the company and is responsible for maintaining the overall integrity and quality of the studio, production shop, and production supplies. The Shop Coordinator provides support and coordination of paint project work activity taking place within the Overall Murals paint shop.

The person we seek is handy, crafty, thrives under pressure, has a logical mind set, love for organization, excellent at multitasking, tech savvy, has a passion for the mural arts industry and is willing to learn new things. The Shop Assistant is open to doing everything from low level to high level tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for supporting and managing the effective, on-time completion of daily activities required for the Overall Murals LA based shop (a sub-shop of the NY headquarters), in accordance with the project planning schedule and the company's policies and practices in a professional, productive and positive manner. The Shop Coordinator will spend a majority of their time in the shop, however, since most of our work is outdoors, the SC will spend time in the field as well as needed to make sure projects are running smoothly and efficiently. This person will support conditions of each project from start to finish to ensure that projects are completed on-time and on-budget.

Production Support - The SC works closely with the production team and provides support to manage aspects of multiple painting projects simultaneously. This person will be calm and thrive under pressure, while being able to work with all kinds of personalities, in a deadline driven environment.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Drive our company vehicle to perform graffiti check and clean-up once a week
  • Drive the company truck/vehicles, picking up/dropping off supplies and equipment
  • Organize, clean, upgrade and maintain our LA Shop facility, equipment, materials and premises
  • Wall preparation such as buffing, priming, setting up of scaffolding, purchase of materials needed, etc.
  • Support the paint team where needed for pre-production, production, and post-production
  • Light Construction - set up scaffolding (both pipe & swing-stage), work on ladders, lift objects up to 80lbs, light carpentry
  • Required to occasionally work in high, precarious places using scaffolding, ladders, scissor lifts or boom lifts.
  • Will occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and occasionally be exposed to wet, and or humid conditions, extreme heat, vibration and inclement weather. Noise level in the work environment may be loud.
  • Prepare, pack, and ship materials for ongoing projects
  • Design, build and maintain work stations
  • Order and pick up supplies
  • Maintain inventory, and equipment
  • Keep the areas of the shop clean and organized such as the building area, supply shelves, restroom, etc.
  • Innovate, research and execute ideas to improve efficiency and processes for mural production and the shop and company properties
  • Work with the Operations Department to organize the schedule and manage mural preparation and production as required.
  • Work with vendors to organize equipment, lighting and other services
  • Work with the owners as well as NY Shop Manager and NY Shop Assistants as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Physically Fit - Able to stand for long durations of time (up to 4 hours) and safely push, pull and lift up to 90 pounds frequently without assistance or equipment
  • Reliable - prompt, responsible, safety-oriented, genuine pride & pleasure in work done well
  • Flexible Schedule - willing to work a variety of days/hours (including weekends), under tight deadlines/short notice
  • Valid California Driver’s License - and ability to operate company vehicles including trucks and cargo vans, owning one's own vehicle is preferred
  • Willing to travel
  • Team Player - Communicative, thick skinned, sturdy, and naturally inclined to support your teammates and all types of personalities that come with working with a hardcore team of painters. You don't take things personally and getting the job done in an efficient, smart manner is the goal. Big egos need not apply.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Painting Skills - experience as a house painter, mural painter, and/or letterer is a huge plus but not required
  • Scaffolding- experience using lifts, rigs, ladders a plus
  • Mural Assistant - experience in assisting artists on mural projects or similar work
  • Experience with sign paint enamels, paint chemicals and materials a plus
  • Construction Skills - experience in light carpentry, construction, and use of hand & power tools
  • Technologically proficient - should have possession of a smartphone. Any Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop abilities are a plus
  • Technical - experience with Slack Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, emailing capabilities and business systems
  • Adobe Creative Suite and Graphic Design background
  • Ideally can ride a scooter or motorcycle and is not afraid of heights
  • Rigging/Scaffolding experience/license a plus
  • Trello or other Project Management Platform knowledge a plus
